Description:

Computing Science has dramatically changed our lives over the past decade. During the programme, you will learn about the broad spectrum of computing science.

How can you make computers learn so they automatically become smarter? How do you build software that cannot be hacked? Also: which problems do we want to solve with IT? How do people use computers and software? What is the effect of automation and IT on the way people work together in organisations and society?

The Computing Science Bachelor's programme teaches you more than just building smart and safe software. Disciplines such as mathematics, psychology, law, medicine, and management are also dealt with. You will also learn to collaborate with others to find the best innovations and solutions.

Why study Computing Science?

  • Are you interested in how computing science can change our society?
  • Do you want more than only learning to program?
  • Do you like to puzzle and use your creativity?
  • Can you protect IT systems from hackers and cyber criminals?
  • Do you want to work in a student software company and work for real customers?
  • Students are very satisfied with this study programme. (source: Elsevier 2019)
  • Our students rate this study with an 8,4 (source: NSE).
  • This programme was recently awarded the quality label 'Top Programme' and is rated the best in its field in the Keuzegids 2020.

What will you learn?

Computing Science is an English-taught Bachelor's programme. In three years you will be provided with a broad and solid mathematical foundation that will allow you to deal with and shape the information technologies of the future. Computing Science is about learning to program, right? Right, but that is only a small part of the Bachelor’s programme.

As a computer scientist, you will learn how software works, how information is represented as digital data, what the underlying mathematical and logical principles are, and how all this is implemented in hardware like computers and digital networks. You will also learn how to apply cyber security to protect IT systems.

After your studies:

In the upcoming years, an increasing number of IT specialists is needed. Corporate processes are becoming more automised, digital security is gaining in importance, and our infrastructures circle more around computer scientists than ever.

Computer scientists can work in a broad array of fields. Companies are dying to take on students with a background in computing science. Most students often find a job before graduating from the programme. It's up to you to decide what you want to specialise in.

Possible occupations:

  • Information and software analyst
  • Consultant or manager in a corporation or government
  • Reseacher for a company, university, or research institution
  • Entrepreneur at your own start-up
  • Cyber crime specialist at Team High Tech Crime
