Description:

As a Molecular Sciences student in Nijmegen, you will dive into all aspects of the synthesis and functioning of molecules; from solid state molecular chemistry to spectroscopy and to the chemical biology that lies at the basis of health and disease.

This Master’s programme in Molecular Sciences combines theoretical courses with extensive research internships in a multidisciplinary environment.

Something for you?

  • At Radboud University, all (bio)chemistry and chemical biology research groups work closely together, allowing you to tackle a wide range of exciting problems during your internship.
  • We offer a unique combination of top level organic chemistry and biomolecular chemistry research groups at the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM), the Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Science (RIMLS), and the Radboud Institute for Health Sciences (RIHS).
  • You will work on projects that run ‘from molecule to man’, or in other words, from the fume cupboard to the patient.
  • Teaching takes place in small groups and in a stimulating, personal setting.

After your studies:

We stimulate our Master's students to develop a critical mind and a problem solving attitude. Some of them will become the next generation of top scientists, all of them will have a job within a couple of months after graduation.

Almost half of our graduates will become a PhD student at a university, while others will work at a research institute in the (bio)chemical or health industry or in one of our spin-off companies. A small portion chooses a job outside of the scientific world, for example as policymaker at a governmental organisation.

Possible occupations:

  • PhD student at a university or research institute
  • Researcher in the (bio)chemical industry
  • Researcher in one of our spin-off companies
  • Policymaker at a governmental organisation

Possible specialisations:

  • Chemistry of Life: In this specialisation, you will use chemistry to understand life at the molecular level. You will focus on complex molecular systems in a biological context.
  • Medicinal Chemistry: In the Master's specialisation Medicinal Chemistry you will deal with the discovery, design, development, targeted delivery, and both pharmacological and analytical characterisation of drug substances.

  • Molecular Chemistry: A thorough programme in the heart of chemistry, covering all stages from molecule design to application. Dive into this creative science, where you synthesize molecules with new biological or physical properties to address scientific or societal challenges.
  • Physical Chemistry: Most chemical research involves synthesis and characterisation of new molecules. Basically, a trial and error approach. This specialisation goes one step further: it aims at fundamentally unravelling the properties of molecules and materials.
  • Science in Society: Science and technology have a profound influence on society, but the reverse is also true: society significantly shapes the ways in which science and technology evolve. This specialisation equips you with the tools to become a professional intermediary between science and society.

  • Science, Management and Innovation: All organisations struggle with challenges such as sustainability, health, energy, and IT security. Solutions require scientists with an analytical as well as a societal understanding of these issues.
