The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Pécs offers a BA program in German Studies, specializing in German as a Minority Language.
Students acquire knowledge of the German language, literature, and culture and develop skills in intercultural communication. Students specializing in German as a Minority Language also learn about the history, language usage, folk culture, and literature of the Hungarian Germans.
Courses are primarily taught in small groups, allowing for individualized student support. Great emphasis is placed on methodological diversity, offering seminars, exercises, and tutorials, opportunities for group work, and project development. Through courses in various areas of German Studies, students develop their communicative skills, enabling them to express themselves appropriately, both orally and in writing, on a variety of topics.
The German Department also offers numerous opportunities to engage with German language and culture outside of university courses: student workshops, theater groups, readings by German-speaking authors, theater performances by the German Theater of Hungary, and more.
Because the University of Pécs maintains relationships with numerous renowned universities throughout Europe, students also have opportunities for international exchange.
