Languages and Cultures of the Nordic and Baltic Sea Region is an umbrella programme that allows students to deepen their knowledge of the culture and language studied (Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Russian, Latvian, Polish or German, Lithuanian) as well as consistently broaden their specialisation to include a cross-cultural perspective. Several thematic courses are offered that target the socio-cultural developments of the community studied in the broader context of Eastern, Central and Northern Europe.

The students can specialise in literary and cultural studies or (socio)linguistics or choose subjects freely combining these fields. The programme includes cooperation with similar programmes at other universities in the region. The language of instruction is English. The entry requirement is a B1 level knowledge of the language of the chosen specialisation.

• You will acquire a deeper understanding of the culture and society studied, based on scientific and cultural knowledge.
• You will acquire intercultural knowledge that will enable you to approach the culture studied in the broader context of the Nordic and Baltic Sea Region.

• You will be able to interpret socio-cultural and/or linguistic phenomena independently, critically and creatively.
• Depending on the starting position, you will raise your competence in the language of your choice to B2-C2 level.

What comes after?

Graduates of the programme are being employed in a wide range of fields requiring professional knowledge of cultures and languages, as well as international and intercultural knowledge, in both state and business enterprises/institutions/organisations in the Nordic and Baltic Sea Region or elsewhere, acting as cultural experts and mediators or simply as critical, independent workers with a good background in humanities.
