The Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology and Social Anthropology program at CEU blends sociology and anthropology disciplines to create an integrated approach to the study of human society.   

You will engage in empirical research using a wide variety of methodologies with theoretically informed approaches introduced through the interdisciplinary style of education at CEU. You will draw on the wealth of knowledge and specializations offered at different CEU departments, such as historical studies, economics,  political science, environmental science and gender studies, and consider diverse influences on your chosen research topic. The goal of this doctoral program is to develop a systematic application of comparative approaches and integrated sociological and anthropological perspectives in academic research.

The purpose of the PhD in Sociology and Social Anthropology program is to offer doctoral-level education matching the highest international standards in sociology and social anthropology. The prospective scholars and teachers in this doctoral program develop advanced interdisciplinary research skills and promote the integration of comparative approaches to the critical challenges in the economic, political, social and cultural spheres in a global context.
