Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU)

The Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU) is a leading educational art institution in Central Europe. Its three independent faculties offer opportunities to specialise in unique artistic endeavours: Theatre Faculty (DAMU), Film and TV School (FAMU), and Music and Dance Faculty (HAMU).

  • The Theatre Faculty (DAMU) is a modern arts institution focused on developing skilled professionals in the field of theatre. The faculty provides comprehensive education in all areas of theatre production, including acting, directing, dramaturgy, scenography, theory and criticism, theatre production management, authorial work, and drama education. Its programmes cover both traditional dramatic theatre and contemporary approaches such as devised and object theatre.
  • The Film and TV School (FAMU) is one of Europe’s leading film schools and has a strong tradition of producing acclaimed Czech filmmakers. Each year, FAMU student films receive numerous awards at international film festivals. The school combines practical training with theoretical study, equipping students with the skills and knowledge required for careers in film, television, photography, and new media.
  • The Music and Dance Faculty (HAMU) offers a diverse range of programmes in music and dance, taught in both Czech and English. Situated in Prague’s historic centre, the campus includes concert halls, an open-air stage, a club stage, a research facility, and a recording studio. HAMU graduates pursue successful careers as soloists, members of orchestras, educators, and professionals in theatres and other cultural institutions both in the Czech Republic and internationally.

Students can choose from accredited study programmes in English as well as short-term individual internships, exchange programmes, specialised courses, and study abroad options.

Through a unique individual approach, AMU offers practical knowledge and experience under the tutelage of active professionals of Europe’s cultural and intellectual scene, ranging from top-ranking filmmakers, theatre dramaturges and stage performers, musical virtuosos, and master dancers. Students have frequently achieved prestigious awards at domestic and international festivals and events, showcasing the high standards of education offered at AMU.

All of AMU’s faculties are located in the heart of Prague’s historical centre. Surrounded by famous cultural monuments and icons, Prague is a great base for artistic inspiration and exploration of the rest of Europe. The city is known as one of the best destinations for students around the world, ranking 3rd on the list of 100 safest cities in the world. Come and experience the beauty of Prague, which has inspired artists for centuries.
