The 6-semester Bachelor's degree programme in World Music creates a broad foundation in artistic practice and research, in teaching and self-management. In addition to the musical/sound practice that students bring with them and should continue to deepen during their studies, the programme focuses on interdisciplinary, trans-traditional artistic practices, aesthetics and research.
The focus is on students' own artistic work in cross-traditional, cross-genre and cross-disciplinary contexts: as artistic-aesthetic-creative as well as performative sound design - explicitly including analogue, digital, intermodal and installative sound practices. In all complementary subjects (history, music theory, aesthetics, aural training, instrumental studies, etc.), a culturally differentiated historical-critical global perspective is taught, in which different sound and music traditions and cultures are aesthetically equivalent and relevant.
In addition to performative and creative approaches, students are encouraged to engage with practices and methods of artistic and academic research. Skills in music education and pedagogy, as well as in managing their own projects, are also taught.
The teaching/learning methods are differentiated according to the area of knowledge and cover the spectrum of possible teaching methods: from lectures, seminars and research workshops to individual and group lessons on instruments or technologies, exercises and rehearsal workshops to internships, field research and independent project work. The expected heterogeneous composition of the student body also allows peer-to-peer learning to be utilised in a targeted manner.
