Description:

The interdisciplinary, multi-scale research used in modern Bio-Health requires people working in the field to be trained in a wide range of disciplines.

In this sense, the Sciences for Human Health pathway provides a new training course within a higher education establishment for young scientists, ranging from Masters to Doctorate, while bringing together people with different backgrounds.

Based on this observation, the program (SH2) implements a dual curriculum in medicine and biology, to train future leaders, scientists and healthcare professionals in the field of Bio-Health. The training provides a solid grounding in key disciplines, and creates close links between training and research.

Programme overview:

This course is aimed at students from science and technology backgrounds who work closely with the healthcare sector (doctors, pharmacists, odontologists).

Examples of teaching units:

  • Cell biology
  • Functional genomics
  • Current research in immunology

The "Sciences for Human Health (SH2)" pathway combines advanced teaching and excellent research to develop innovative thinking in students, and raise their awareness of the impact of the environment on human health.

The research program is in line with MUSE's ambition to support excellence in basic and clinical research in the field of Bio-Health. It offers multidisciplinary and integrative research, from genetics to molecular and experimental medicine, to develop quantitative biology and new therapeutic and diagnostic strategies for human health.

This master's degree prepares students for tomorrow's quantitative and personalized medicine.

The IDIL model:

The IDIL (Interdisciplinary In lab') graduate program at the University of Montpellier opened in September 2022, and aims to train students through and for research via pedagogical innovation. The IDIL courses available are diversified and cover a wide range of disciplines, from bio-health to political science.

Taught entirely in English, IDIL courses offer students the opportunity to follow their courses through a unique structure based on four main aspects:

  • Learning by doing. IDIL courses place a strong emphasis on learning by doing, and include in-lab units as well as a subsidized research internship in M1 and M2. The IDIL program opens the doors to around a hundred laboratories at the University of Montpellier, where students will be working in immersion.
  • Customized curriculum. IDIL students can tailor their course to suit their career plans and interests by selecting their courses from three different teaching units: Non Core, In-lab and Transversal. Support is provided to ensure that the student's course of study corresponds to his or her chosen orientation.
  • Introduction to a new discipline. All IDIL students must choose a Non Core teaching unit, which is an introductory course to a discipline in another IDIL pathway. For example, a Comparative Politics and Public Policy student may take an introductory course in Applied Ecological and Evolutionary Sciences. This arrangement gives students a unique profile, and is an effective way of developing interdisciplinary thinking, a major challenge in modern research.
  • Mentoring. Throughout the IDIL program, students will be coached by a researcher from the Montpellier laboratories. The mentor's role is to prepare the student for the internship, teach theory through various workshops, and develop the student's professional network.

Further studies:

  • Doctoral studies: IDIL courses are ideal for doctoral studies.
  • Professional integration: Although IDIL courses are research-oriented, they offer an incredible amount of professional experience throughout their duration, which can be used in any professional environment. How to work as part of a team, how to manage a project, how to use data are just some of the softskills taught during this program.
